Amazing prices for the BRU routes. BRU-BCN possible for 39.98EUR return. The rest of the routes are bookable for 59.98EUR return. That's not what I call expensive ;-)

A most interesting report of Michael O'Leary press conference this morning at Brussels :

http://www.luchtzak.be/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=51980&p=292383#p292383

Extracts :

MOL started with saying he had a nice breakfast meeting with the CEO of Brussels Airport. The atmosphere was excellent and there was nice cooperation from the airport staff. Ryanair will dock at normal gates, but will not use the jet bridges. The aim is to have a turnaround in 25 minutes. However the taxi times at BRU will obviously be longer than at CRL.

The bookings for the BRU flights are excellent. FR has currently already a 25% load factor for the March flights and hopes to achieve 80%. There is a promotional fare of 17.99 euros for all BRU and CRL flights until tomorrow evening: this is below cost for the BRU flights (MOL confessed that he'll have to pay close to 30 euros airport fees). Extra flights might be necessary on some days and destinations to handle the forecast reservations. The best bookings are on LIS and FCO.

MOL announced that Ryanair would be the number one airline in Belgium in 2014, overtaking Brussels Airlines. In a graph, he showed no decrease in CRL (5.5 million pax) and 1.5 million pax in BRU, for a total of 6.5-7.0 million pax, this above the 5.8 million pax of SN. At the same time, the total number of passengers at BRU would increase from 19 to 20 million in 2014, thanks to Ryanair.

The current Ryanair destinations out of BRU are mostly summer destinations, thus Ryanair foresees to use some of its 4 aircraft based at BRU to serve new destinations in the winter of 2014. An announcement should be made in April or May.

Ryanair will introduce business packages in April: for a higher ticket price, business pax will get a fast track at selected airports, a reserved seat, free baggage allowance, free change of flights.

The future staff based in Brussels will pay income taxes in Ireland and social security taxes in Belgium, in full compliance with EU law.
MOL would like to participate in the 19 million euros subsidy programme for Belgian airlines (and jokingly he considered SN as a German airline), and might therefore request a Belgian AOC for some aircraft.

Ryanair will not leave Charleroi, which it considers as one of its best and most profitable bases. At long term, FR aims at 7-10 million pax in CRL, and 3 million in BRU.
