Announcing Ryanair’s 25th base in Birmingham, Michael O’Leary said:
“The people of Birmingham have been woefully underserved and overcharged by British Airways and Flybe’s high fares for years. Ryanair’s new base will smash this high fare stranglehold by delivering savings of £130m next year for Birmingham’s passengers / visitors.
“Direct international routes are fundamental to the economic development of a city like Birmingham and the people of the West Midlands can now look forward to Europe’s guaranteed lowest fares and best punctuality on 22 international routes with Ryanair. This route count will more than double as a result of Ryanair’s $700m investment in Birmingham, bringing with it a significant increase in European visitors and jobs for the West Midlands
“To celebrate the launch of our new base, we are offering all passengers who buy a return flight on any route from Birmingham (before midnight on Thursday) a free bonus flight, (no taxes, no fees and no charges*) for travel in February to Dublin or Shannon from Birmingham. This special offer must end midnight Thursday so we advise passengers to book their bargain seats today on www.ryanair.com”.

Re: Birmingham Becomes Ryanair's 25th Base
bmibaby has announced 5 of its routes are to end in March. Three of them to Milan-Bergamo, Madrid and Rome. It is rumoured that the airport is in talks with Ryanair to replace these three routes as soon as bmibaby ends them. Hopefully Ryanair will operate them and also have a higer frqunecy on the routes.

With Spain having a 100% tax deduction or something like that what is the likely hood of Ryanair launching Birmingham - Madrid in the near future?

Re: Birmingham Becomes Ryanair's 25th Base
I feel that Birmingham really needs a route to Madrid as a hole Bmibaby had very high load factors on the route and Birmingham does key business in the city with many companies. Birmingham is in need of a route to the spanish capital and indeed to many others. Michael o'leary needs to no that Birmingham is a very important and key city in europe and nneds routes to many finacial centres and capital cities which will make revenue and also make Birmingham even more known and many people on the continent will come and visit this vibrant and major european centre. Mr o'Leary, we need more than just holiday and low frequency routes on city routes but routes to major european cities like Madrid, Berlin, Budapest and paris and on good frequencys for business travellers. They would do very well and have proven to do well in the past and i hope that he really see's Birmingham's potential. I have heard how he is reducing frequency's and planes in Dublin and Stansted. Here is a great oppurtunity to develop and help the people of Birmingham who need good and great routes to the continent on good frequencies and so help develop Birmingham even further in being more easily accessed by Europe and at a good price to !
