COMPLETE BASE LIST Empty COMPLETE BASE LIST

Post by Plain Crazy Fri 5 Mar 2010 - 22:59

I have recently done a lot of painstaking research about Ryanair's bases, and the following is a list of my results:-

1st base = (DUB) Dublin 1985 1st Irish base
2nd base = (LTN) London Luton 1988 1st English base "In January 1988 LEA was relaunched as Ryanair Europe, allowing Ryanair to sell flights from Dublin to Brussels using London Luton as a hub"
3rd base = (STN) London Stansted 1991 2nd English base "Ryanair switched its London base from Luton airport to Stansted airport in Essex". There is no mention of the Luton base being totally closed, or relaunched, so in this case LTN will remain base 2 and STN will be base 3.
4th base = (PIK) Glasgow Prestwick 2000 1st Scottish base "In September 2000, the first new base since 1991 was established at Glasgow Prestwick". Therefore this puts PIK at position 4.
5th base = (SNN) Shannon This was quite a difficult one to work out. It is actually listed as Ryanair's 12th base opening in Nov 2004, but there is evidence to contradict this. An old route map lists Shannon as a base when there were only 9 bases. Further evidence suggests that Shannon operated as a Ryanair hub before Brussels Charleroi opened, thus Shannon is most likely to be base 5 chronologically.
6th base = (CRL) Brussels (Charleroi) Apr 2001 1st Belgian base Also first base on the continent. This is most likely to be base 6.
7th base = (HHN) Frankfurt-Hahn 2002 1st German base
8th base = (BGY) Milan (Bergamo) Feb 2003 1st Italian base
9th base = (NYO) Stockholm Skavsta Apr 2003 1st Swedish base
10th base = (CIA) Rome (Ciampino) 2004 2nd Italian base
11th base = (GRO) Girona (Barcelona) 2004 1st Spanish base
12th base = (LPL) Liverpool 2005 3rd English base (Shannon is also listed as base 12, but see Shannon above - this does not appear to be the case).
13th base = (PSA) Pisa Jul 2005 3rd Italian base Pisa is actually listed as the 14th European base, but infact it is actually 13. Perhaps the number 13 is unlucky!
14th base = (ORK) Cork Sep 2005 3rd Irish base There is reference to both Cork and East Midlands being the 15th base - they both can't be! Since Cork was opened 1 day earlier than East Midlands, it will be 14.
15th base = (EMA) East Midlands Sep 2005 4th English base
16th base = (MRS) Marseille MP2 May 2006 1st French base
17th base = (BRE) Bremen Sep 2006 2nd German base
18th base = (MAD) Madrid Oct 2006 2nd Spanish base
19th base = (NRN) Dusseldorf (Weeze) Feb 2007 3rd German base
20th base = (BRS) Bristol Nov 2007 5th English base
21st base = (ALC) Alicante Nov 2007 3rd Spanish base
22nd base = (VLC) Valencia CLOSED OCT 2008
22nd base = (KIR) Kerry Jul 2008 4th Irish base There was very little announcement of this new base. I know that it doesn't officially fit in here but I've simply slotted it in here to fill Valencia's place and to keep all the other bases in chronological order. Apologies if you're from Kerry - no offence intended!
23rd base = (BHD) Belfast (City) Oct 2007 1st Northern Ireland base
24th base = (BOH) Bournemouth Apr 2008 6th English base
25th base = (BHX) Birmingham Jul 2008 7th English base
26th base = (REU) Reus (Barcelona) Nov 2008 4th Spanish base
27th base = (EDI) Edinburgh Nov 2008 2nd Scottish base
28th base = (AHO) Alghero 2009 4th Italian base There is no concrete evidence about bases 28 + 29, but since Bologna is the 30th base, (and Alghero and Cagliari were to become the 6th & 7th Italian bases respectively!), we will assume that they are 28 and 29.
29th base = (CAG) Cagliari 2009 5th Italian base
30th base = (BLQ) Bologna 2009 6th Italian base
31st base = (TPS) Trapani 2009 7th Italian base No mention of base 31, but Bologna is listed as 30 & Pescara is listed as 32, so Trapani must fit in here.
32nd base = (PSR) Pescara 2009 8th Italian base
33rd base = (OPO) Porto 2009 1st Portugese base
34th base = (LBA) Leeds 2010 8th English base
35th base = (BRI) Bari 2010 9th Italian base
36th base = (BDS) Brindisi 2010 10th Italian base
37th base = (RYG) Oslo (Rygge) 2010 1st Norwegian base
38th base = (AGP) Malaga 2010 5th Spanish base
39th base = (FAO) Faro 2010 2nd Portugese base
40th base = (KUN) Kaunas 2010 1st Lithuanian base
41st base = (MLA) Malta 2010 1st Maltese base

This list has been compiled in good faith and every effort has been made to make this list as complete and accurate as possible but I cannot accept any responsibility for any errors. I will welcome any additional comments and/or corrections.

COMPLETE BASE LIST Empty Re: COMPLETE BASE LIST

Well, even Ryanair itself is not sure about Prestwick base...
About 1997 they wrote
In October we launch our third airport base at Glasgow Prestwick with daily flights to Dublin, London, Paris and Frankfurt.
And in 2000 they wrote
...and launches its first new base since 1991 by basing three new aircraft at Glasgow Prestwick...

Shannon was as destination very early, but as a base was listed under 2005 year so I guess this should be a date...

Forlí has also been mentioned on FR's website as a base, but while later they've changed it's plans and decide to place a plane in Trapani.
