Ryanair confirms his "commitment" to its base in Charleroi and denied rumors of an "moving its operations at Brussels Zaventem airport in case of disappearance of Brussels Airlines," said Ryanair Tuesday in a statement.
"Ryanair confirms again that it has recently reaffirmed its plans to develop traffic at Brussels South Charleroi, continuing to add new aircraft and new destinations in Charleroi. Ryanair continues to grow traffic and the number of jobs in Charleroi, and has no intention to move its operations at the airport of Zaventem, even if Brussels Airlines, an airline operated by Lufthansa in reality, ceases operations, "says the company.
Ryanair also asked the Belgian government "to reject the pathetic attempts of Brussels Airlines to obtain subsidies for its high cost of labor, which would result in the Belgian taxpayer subsidying Lufthansa, one of the largest airlines groups in Europe. "
Our view is: Brussels Airlines is just another airline to high tariff, high cost, at a time when most passengers expect low rates and efficient service such as that provided by Ryanair to airport Brussels South Charleroi, "concluded the company.
The Belgian government has decided to help Brussels Airlines (SN), giving two main reasons for it :
- the loss of 10.000 jobs if SN folds up
- that Ryanair would then move operations to Brussels (BRU), which would be a disaster for Brussels South Charleroi (CRL).
