Ryanair: Switzerland bases?
Hi,
I have been wondering why Ryanair don't have a presence in Switzerland? Apart from Basel. Easyjet are a big carrier there, and now Aer Lingus are starting a Gatwick - Zurich daily route.
Why doesn't Ryanair start a Stansted - Zurich or somewhere nearby on a higher basis?
Great for business travellers, city breakers, and skiiers!
Thank you.

Re: Ryanair: Switzerland bases?
The answer is quite easy. Ryanair likes to use low tax airports with low cost facilities to establish a base. Quite frankly no such airport exists in Switzerland! Basel is probably the best they can get.
And forget Zurich. It's one of the most expensive airports in Europe!

Re: Ryanair: Switzerland bases?
I see, just that Ryanair have cancelled the Dublin-Basel route, and the Stansted-Basel route is every other day. Which suggests it is not very popular.
Is it possible to get from another nearby base, to Zurich either by train or bus?
What are the other alternatives? I really don't want to go on a crampt, dirty, Sleazyjet flight!
Thank you.

Re: Ryanair: Switzerland bases?
From my research, FR to Friedrichshafen from Stansted is the best choice, then it seems a taxi to the ferry port - the ferry over - train to Zurich.
It seems the train will cost around €30, I am not sure about the ferry nor the taxi. But I am geussing, €60-ish?
Thank you.

Re: Ryanair: Switzerland bases?
I would take the train from Friedrichshafen Airport via Singen and Schaffhausen to Zurich. It only takes between 2 hours 30 minutes and 3 hours that way, plus it's not all that expensive. Expect around 35 Euro for the trip, not more!
