Security and Delays
Ryanair Calls on Minister Dempsey to Investigate DAA Security Failures
Ryanair, Dublin Airport’s largest airline, today (24th July) called on the Minister for Transport, Noel Dempsey, to investigate repeated security failures at the DAA Monopoly run Dublin Airport after long security queues today and on Monday (20th July) resulted in 60 Ryanair passengers missing early morning flights. This is the third time in three months that Ryanair has had to draw attention to these major security failures at Dublin Airport so far this summer:
Ryanair confirmed that security queuing in Dublin Airport today and on Monday stretched in front of airline check in desks and resulted in one passenger collapsing after she missed her flight due to the long security queues. Ryanair passengers reported delays of over 30 minutes to clear passenger security which contradicts the DAA Monopoly’s spokesperson Siobhan Moore’s recent false claims that it “takes a maximum of 15 minutes”.
Ryanair’s Stephen McNamara said:
“Ryanair calls on the Minister for Transport to step in and investigate why passenger who are paying €15 to the DAA Monopoly to pass through Dublin Airport and €10 to the Irish Government to leave the country are missing flights due to repeated failures at the DAA Monopoly run Dublin Airport.
The DAA’s spokesperson, Siobhan Moore, continues to claim that it takes ‘a maximum of 15 minutes’ to clear security at Dublin Airport and denied claims that passengers were missing flights as a result of security queues. So far today Ryanair has recorded 30 passengers who missed flights at Dublin Airport and we suspect many more missed flights but have now decided not to travel. With passengers collapsing in Dublin Airport due to the stress of long security queues we call on Minister Dempsey to tackle the chaos at Dublin Airport.”
I will never knock security at any airport but sometimes the security that is in place confuses me -
Sometimes i fly multi flights in one day and will pass through the same airport and security checks more than once in a day.
I am a regular flyer in and out of Dublin this is typical.. leave DUB 10am clear @ of security checks..NO ALARMS whoopeee dont take my shoes off,
I fly back into DUBS and again leave DUBS @ 9pm same clothes same shoes.. this time ALARMS are activated shoes off time for nothing.
spot checks regardless of technology maybe this is a contributer and cause of security and delays.
I'm unsure - I arrive at DUBS and go direct to transfers to catch another flight no baggage with my boarding pass(i'm airside only) ...I need to pass through security checks again. surely the previous airport I have just arrived from have cleared me so why a re- check.
would save me binning my forgotten bottled drinks too
Maybe airports dont trust their staff or the security they pass through
as another 60 passengers miss flights this week

Re: Security and Delays
The clear connections system would be great idea @ Dublin Airport.
Anyway, after one year of working at this ultrabusy place I've realised myself several things. Pax don't care at all. I remember few early mornings during summertime. First flights was departing at 6am. So we were opening our Food Court at 4am. My god - it's 5 minutes to open and we have queue of 25 ppl now! 60 minutes later there usually was worse. Neverending queue as every passenger must eat it's fatty breakfast before fly. We have one hour to departure? Who cares, we can make it in 15 minutes. Then they're going one floor lower and ups.... 40 minutes to get to the security and we'll be boarded - oh my god - gate A60+ (unless 10 minutes of walking). This way many departures was delayed... So it isn't mostly because of security...
About alarms during second pass, as far as I know, there is something like a random double checking. I mean some part of passengers randomly has to be checked more precisely be security member, asked by Airport Police (happend to me once in Bristol) or in other case. So I've heard that even scanning gears randomly starting to beep during some passenger passing.
