EDI: Edinburgh International Airport (Turnhouse) Scotland
Edinburgh International Airport (IATA : EDI) is located at Turnhouse in the City of Edinburgh, Scotland.
The airport has a single terminal but work on a £40m expansion began in Feb 2009, with completion due by 2011.
Runways:
06/24 Asphalt 2557m 8389ft.
12/30 Asphalt 1798m 5899ft.
Edinburgh is Scotland's capital City.
The airport is located seven miles west of the City Centre.
It is the eighth largest airport in the UK.
Busiest day ever was on the 26th June 2009 with 35,899 passengers.
Owned and operated by BAA.
Edinburgh airport is Ryanair's 27th base.
38 Ryanair destinations are on offer at this airport, although I believe 'Bournemouth' is likely to cease shortly.
The airport also serves as a base for rival company Easy Jet, and was also Flyglobespan's base until the company ceased trading on the 16th December 2009.
The present building was constructed in 1977 and has been upgraded in recent years.
A new 57 metre tall control tower was opened in 2005 at a cost of £10m / 16m euro.
The airport has 23 departure gates.
There are on average 350 take-offs and landings per day at Edinburgh airport by many different airlines.
The airport has restaurants, bars and shops both before and after security.
The City is definitely well worth a visit (or stay). Lothian Buses provide a bus service to the centre (Airlink 100). The journey takes around 25 minutes and the service is very frequent, running around every 10 mins. during the day. As of this time adult prices are £3.50 single and £6 for an open return.
