.Ryanair has had to alter its flights to Sicily due to the air strikes against Libya.

Trapani airport in Sicily has been closed to all civilian air traffic since the offensive began against Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.


Sicily services have switched all its Trapani flights to Palermo airport, about 35 miles away.


Italy has moved F-16s and Eurofighter aircraft from bases in northern Italy to Trapani One for the spotters

Unfortunately I'm flying from Pisa to Palermo and back to Pisa on 26 and 29 of March. I got sms from FR that the flights were moved to Palermo. Ryanair only offers 25 euro return tickets (by terravision bus) to Trapani, but there's a train too for half of that price.

"...all Ryanair flights scheduled to operate to/from Trapani between the 21-31 March inclusive will now operate to/from Palermo Airport which is 55 miles (90 Kms) from Trapani Airport (one hour driving time)..."

These restrictions allow Ryanair’s 4 based aircraft to resume flights to/from Trapani, but, all other flights on Ryanair’s non-based aircraft will continue to fly to/from Palermo which is 50 miles (90km) from Trapani Airport. Trapani Airport has advised due to military activities the airport will be open but with a limited number of flights permitted. These restrictions allow Ryanair’s 4 based aircraft to resume flights to/from Trapani, but, all other flights on Ryanair’s non-based aircraft will continue to fly to/from Palermo which is 50 miles (90km) from Trapani Airport.”

Today got this mail ( I had booked flight from Trapani to Stockholm Skavsta on May 6)

Due to the military action taking place in Libya, Trapani Airport was
initially closed to all commercial flight
and then subsequently partially reopened. However, Trapani remains
closed to sixteen daily Ryanair flights.

Ryanair has sought confirmation from the Italian authorities (ENAC) on
several occasions that these
16 daily disrupted flights can resume operations to/from Trapani
Airport, but to date we have received
no response from ENAC and are now left with no option but to cancel
these services from the 5-11 May inclusive.
We sincerely apologise for the below flight cancellation which is
outside of our control.

Maybe it's possible a last minute update of the flights scheduled in May the week after Easter on website. I advice to you to check frequently this page...

It's updated with the operate flights from/to Palermo airport; in case your flight will takeoff from Palermo, you just need to reach that airport with the frequent bus that has organized from Trapani.

Bad news...

Ryanair, today (21st Apr) announced the cancelation of 72 flights to/from Trapani Airport (from 6-11May inclusive) due to the ongoing Air Force restrictions on civil aviation at the airport. Ryanair is no longer willing to inconvenience its passengers by diverting these flights to/from Palermo Airport and must cancel these non-based flights on a rolling basis until Trapani Airport is fully reopened to Ryanair flights.

Ryanair apologises to passengers for these unavoidable cancelations and has contacted affected passengers via email and SMS to provide them with a refund or a switch to an alternate flight. A list of cancelled flights is available on www.ryanair.com.
