Ryanair today (28 Nov) announced that in order to comply with the UK Office of Fair Trading’s recent ruling on credit card fees it will introduce an avoidable 2% credit card processing fee on all new credit card bookings made from 30 November, to cover credit card payment costs.
Ryanair’s 2% credit card fee can be avoided by using debit cards (including Ryanair Cash Passport cards) or German ELV transfer.
In addition, Ryanair’s €6/£6 admin fee (which covers costs associated with Ryanair’s website, www.ryanair.com) will apply to all new bookings made from 30 November, except those bookings made using a Ryanair Cash Passport in Ireland, Germany and Spain, where admin fees can be avoided until 1 February, 15 February and 21 March 2013, respectively.
This will bring all of Ryanair’s European operations in line with its UK procedures, following the OFT’s ruling.

Not very clear nor easy to understand ... we'll see how it turns out !

Ryanair Adding 2% on bookings made from 30 Nov.
Ryanair are adding a £/€6 admin fee to those without a valid debit card.
Unsure why the credit card charge fee of 2% aswell as the £/€6 is now being charged, thats a further 2% added cost than I expected.
More empty seats and lower pax statistics because (WE here) regular cheap flight hunters may not travel as often( we want to part with less money than MOL does ) sad times may be on the Horizon / Attitude Indicator

OFT said: "We have not required any airline to introduce new payment charges, increase their credit card charges, or scrap any discounts they wish to offer.
"We took action to make sure that debit card charges are included in the headline price and credit card charges are transparent and not sprung on shoppers towards the end of the booking process."


Ryanair can simply show the complete price to comply with OFT.. and at the end of the booking when payment is required, offer those with certain Ryanair debit card/s a Discount or a Refunded reward of £/€ 6 per passenger per booking? this would keep everybody happy.

or Simply scrap the £/€6 fee and instead increase all low fares by 2% regardless of customers chosen payment methods.

Or atleast offer us 1p flights for Christmas and the start of 2013

RYANAIR is introducing a new 2pc credit card fee on bookings from tomorrow.
The airline said it would impose the new charge as well as its €6 administration fee, meaning Irish customers would be paying booking charges on the double.
However, the administration fee will be scrapped in Ireland in two months' time and built in to higher flight fares instead.

Airline spokesman Stephen McNamara said he understood that customers would be unhappy about the changes, but that the separate new credit card charge was an "unhappy consequence" of the OFT's decision that they couldn't charge added fees to customers paying by any type of debit card.

Mr McNamara said that the lowest flight prices in the UK, where the new charging regime was being rolled out this week, had already been adjusted from £12 (€14.86) to £18 (€22.29) to build in the administration fee to the advertised price.

This will also happen in Ireland in February, which will mean, for example, that the lowest fare will rise from €16 currently to €22.

The new charging regime would have been introduced at the same time across Europe, but is being phased in at different times in Ireland, Germany and Spain to allow contracts run out with Mastercard, which operates the Ryanair Cash Passport system.

Mr McNamara said that though this was messy, it reflected the fact that contracts were in place.
