Ryanair has added about two minutes an hour to flights this summer and the coming winter to reduce its soaring fuel bill, which rose by 6 per cent to ­£498million.
Spending on fuel, which makes up about 47 per cent of the airline’s operating costs, contributed to a £18million fall in profits to £67million in the three months to the end of June.
Deputy chief executive Howard Millar denied the slightly longer journey times would significantly lengthen flights. “We’re flying slightly slower but burning less fuel,” he said.
