In a statement, the ANA states that "at this point they are already authorized departures, arrivals being limited to four moves / hour."
However, it provides that "the assistance to passengers remain low during the day today and tomorrow (Tuesday)" and "regrets the inconvenience caused."
Strong gusts of wind destroyed this morning at about 5:00, part of the ceiling from Faro airport, causing five wounded, one of them in serious condition.
The wind also damaged the control tower, leaving almost all the windows, said the director of the airport, Francisco Mendes Correia.
From the 06:45 was made only one flight, bound for Bristol, with two open check-in and one to London to Liverpool.
At the airport concentrate thousands of passengers facing two types of needs: information and food, as all service centers are closed to the public.
The situation is aggravated because many amongst the passengers are babies.

Sounds Bad

Night time storm tears roof off Faro airport in Portugal’s Algarve; 5 hurt, flights disrupted
Authorities say an overnight storm tore part of the roof off Faro airport in Portugal’s southern Algarve region, injuring five people and disrupting flights.

Roof panels over the departure terminal’s check-in area peeled off when the storm hit at around 5 a.m. Monday.

Hundreds of passengers were stranded at the airport as authorities canceled or delayed departures and diverted incoming planes.

Local media said the damage to the airport meant cafes and restaurants did not open, leaving waiting passengers without food or drink.

The Algarve is Portugal’s main vacation destination and one of Europe’s most popular. Faro airport handles more than 4 million passengers a year.
