Airports Weighing Hand Luggage
Hi
Having just flown LPL - CCF as a return today, I noticed at both departure airports (LPL and CCF) staff weighing all cabin luggage.
At liverpool this began at the departure gate, and at carcassonne before security at the check in desk (even for those with no checked luggage).
My last flight with ryanair was 18th December, so either it is a new procedure. Or maybe it is the norm at carcassonne, and a rarety but vicious target at passengers in liverpool?
Be Warned!!!!
Fortunately my hand luggage weighed 8.5 kg, however I was carrying slightly less than my previous flights.
I have a flight next monday MAN - MAD and MAD - ACE, so I'll update and keep to the same clothing items and travel gadgets (camcorder/tablet pc).
Be Warned and be Vigilent...
We all know it's 10 Kg, but now there may be mandatory weight measures in place.

Re: Airports Weighing Hand Luggage
Hi Photon,Thanks for sharing this information with us, I think we are lucky to get this far without weight checks but it seems this may be the norm at airports soon.
I too will report any information regarding the same on my next trips in february MAN>CRL>NYO>LPL
*********************************************************************************************************************
I Visited Stockholm-Skavsta Airport (NYO) and Yes they are weighing hand luggage- The luggage is weighed and measured before you hand over your boarding pass.
*If you are unsure about the weight of your hand luggage simply use a scale at a checkin desk (when available) before you go through security*.
Hand luggage is being weighed at some airports I am sure the list will grow. Thank you for your input.

Re: Airports Weighing Hand Luggage
in my opinion it's hard to get over 10kg, without infringing the size restrictions exapt you are some sort of builder while transporting bricks And you can easily store some kg in the pockets of the jacket! Once the weight of my handluggage was checked. It was back in 2009 in Hahn and everyone was checked (but no size control luckily )
by the way no checks last week in Leipzig and Rome.

Re: Airports Weighing Hand Luggage
Just to report back, my flights from manchester - Madrid and Madrid to lanzarote didn't occur any cabin bag weight checks. However be vigilent as it may occur at any airport at any time. Just to add, I paid £60 for those combined flights and it was fantastic. Skyscanner I is a great tool to locate these 9.99 or sometimes 3 £€ fares.

Re: Airports Weighing Hand Luggage
Last week I flew from LPL to AGP ( Malaga ) and downstairs their were FOUR checking staff armed with TWO scales and acting every inch like the Gestapo weighing everyone's hand luggage. Luckly I had booked on Easyjet who have no restriction on hand luggage weight. After flying Ryanair to Malaga about every ten days I have had to book with Easyjet because Ryanair's arival times are no good to me since they changed the schedule. Also Easyjet still accept the Electron card --remember that it was about two cards ago, they retain all your details so that you don't have to enter them everytime also their is no stupid security questions to keep answering when searching for flights. Also I think that the Airbus is a more comfortable plane and the cabin staff seem to treat the passengers with more respect in my opion. So I would have to say that I think that Ryanair have lost their way a bit unfortunately.

Re: Airports Weighing Hand Luggage
Last Thursday at Liverpool in the downstairs area the Ryanair Gestapo were working their magic again with the scales. Could someone explain to me that when a woman has 2kg over the 10kg in her hand luggage and then takes a jumper out of her luggage and wears the jumper and then the hand luggage is accepted what is the difference the gross weight is the same!!!!!! Again Easy Jet no limit on hand luggage weight.

Because you have to set boundaries. If you allow someone with 12 kg, why not allow 13kg? It's about giving people a hard time when they have overweight.. which they wanna prevent the next time they fly which saves weight in the future.

Re: Airports Weighing Hand Luggage
I've had my bag weighed when I've flown from:
Stockholm Skavsta - but it doesn't seem to happen that much anymore, what they do do sometimes if that they check the size of the bag at the gate.
Småland (Växjö airport) - but not my bag luckily because they thought I was flying with another company, so they do it before you go through security.
Eindhoven
Düsseldorf Weeze - Only sometimes
Those are the airports I usually fly to and from, and they all seem to check, at least occationally.
