In an exclusive interview on RTE Radio One’s Countrywide, which airs this morning, Michael O'Leary confirmed he won’t be following in the footsteps of Samoa Air, which has introduced the practice of charging overweight travellers — but it’s not out of the goodness of his heart.
“We operate big aircraft and frankly it would slow things down too much if you were weighing every passenger,” he said.
“With a 25 minute turnaround you need to operate on average weight.
“Passengers want low fares but they also want flights on time, so we can’t be wasting time weighing people.”
