checked bagage and online checkin Empty checked bagage and online checkin

Post by johnzing Thu 26 Mar 2009 - 20:53

Hi

I reserved a flight for 2 persons with no bagage and online check-in.

Then I changed my mind and I want to check 1 baggage for 1 person. I know this is possible using "my booking", the question is:

- Do I have to change "online check-in" to "desk check in" ?

If yes, for both or just for 1 person (the one with the checked bag) ?

If No and I can keep online check-in (even with a checked bag) then at the airport I still need to wait in the check-in desk queue to check my baggage right?

Thank you

Hi,

You can add a bag for £20/20 euros through my booking, here is the link: https://www.bookryanair.com/SkySales/FRManageBooking.aspx?culture=EN-GB&lc=EN-GB

No, you can check-in online and just drop the bag off at one of the designated bag-drop desks at the airport.

And this will not cost you anything, just the bag fee - which is at £20 (or euros)

Have a wonderful flight with Ryanair.

Hi Thank you,

but I just saw this in "my booking page"
"Please note that when you change a flight all passengers included in this booking will be changed. If you wish to add a bag, sports, infant or musical items all passengers in this booking will be required to check-in at the airport."

So, it seems that if I add a bag I have to pay 20 for the bag fee + 20 for each passenger for airport check-in... so I have to pay £60 additional fee

Can you (or anyone else) clarify this for me please? thank you

Hi again,

I am quite sure that you can check-in a bag online, and this will cost £/€20, and no online check-in fees!

It should cost you £20.

Unless you want to check-in at the airport, in which case will cost £60.

When you made the booking what did you select, regarding bags and check-in?

Now, I just need to add 1 bag (for 1 passenger)

I'm confuswd because in the top of "my booking page"

I can read
"Please note that when you change a flight all passengers included in this booking will be changed. If you wish to add a bag [...] all passengers in this booking will be required to check-in at the airport."£

If so, I have to pay + £60 to add a bag Shocked

Hello there,

Under the extra equipment table, i.e, golf bags, skis, priority boarding etc. There used to be a option about airport check-in, this is no longer there.

When you choose a bag, it doesn't add any other fees. Anyway, if on the next screen it does; which I highly doubt - you still don't have to pay!

I hope I cleared up the confusion, it will cost you £20 per bag.

Have a wonderful flight with Ryanair.

Post by pinkseb Mon 27 Apr 2009 - 18:45

Hello guys,

a same kind of question has been in my head too for the last 2 days.

I booked a flight in february, and as an optimist i chose online check-in with hand luggage only. Then I decided to still take check in baggage. I added 1 baggage on the site and paid the extra 20 €. On the page, where you can choose the things to be added, was a disclaimer, that if i take check-in baggage, i cannot do the online check-in anymore and that i have to pay the airport check-in fee.

After booking the baggage i got a new itinerary, and within 10 minutes after that a mail stating that "you have to check in online now".

Now I dont know if I should/can still check in online since I booked before 19th of March 2009 and the site says that booking for 19.03. and later everyone can check in online. I interpret it so that I am not one of those people. And on the first page of online check-in I have to check the box "i am carrying only one piece of cabin luggage...". How should I understand this?

I read about people checking online and doing something wrong, and their boarding cards were voided because they had "falsified" them, and they couldnt fly. I cannot afford that risk.

Tried to call support hotline (german) but "the service is temporarily unavailable" :S
I am a frequent flyer (at least twice a month) but the info on the ryanair website allows a bit too much interpretation in this issue.

What do you guys suggest? Online check-in or going to the airport and paying there for the airport check-in Question Question

Thank You very much!

Hi,

No, you can still take a bag, and you have paid the correct amount - €20.

I think it depends on the airport you're flying from, but I recently flew from both Stansted and Seville - and didn't have a problem with checking-in online and taking a bag.

I would say the online check-in would be fine, perhaps you could ring the airport, and maybe speak to a Ryanair representative there?

Post back you're findings!

Hi,

thanks for the info! I am flying from Frankfurt-Hahn. There is like one phone number for Terminal Information..that is the closest thing contacting someone from any of the airline flying from there. I will try that one.

I will report how everything went, though soon this will not be a problem anymore since bookings done after 19.03.09 are automatically offering online check-in with baggage. But I am sure there are many other people in the same situation.

Hi,

Frankfurt-Hahn is a large base, so check-in online shouldn't be a problem. Just go to either a bag drop or designated check-in desk (like I do)

And once you have paid for the bags - there isn't a problem!

Have a wonderful flight with Ryanair.

Thanks! I also thought to just make the online check-in and see what happens. As far as the situation can be solved with money I have no worries. What made me concerned was the horror scenario of not being allowed to fly because of not being qualified for online check-in. I felt like being sandwiched between the old and the new check-in system. I am taking part in a sailing regatta so i cannot afford being late (=next day) because I am not going to swim after the boat. pirat

Till now I have had no problems with Ryanair. Have been flying manymanymany times. I hope it will stay like that. Smile

I am sure you will be fine, Ryanair beat BA, Air France, Iberia, and Lufthansa hands down! Every time!

Hi!

I'll write here my question rather than to open a new topic.

I haven't paid the travel insurance that Ryanair offers, because there wasn't any for my country, that's why I just want to know what to do in case if Ryanair loses my baggage? Do I have to pay all the costs for retreiving my baggage?

Also what to do if because of a delay from them, I miss the other plane, also from Ryanair? Do I get a refund or nothing?

Ryanair rarely loses baggage; but if you experience a delayed or lost luggage, there is a procedure explained in "Travel questions" :

http://www.ryanair.com/site/EN/faqs.php?sect=bag&quest=delayeddamaged
http://www.ryanair.com/site/EN/faqs.php?sect=bag&quest=baggageclaim

As for the connecting flight, Ryanair formally doesn't sell a travel involving connecting flights; it means that you have to book the two successive flights with time between them enough to recover you hold baggage from the first flight, exit, put it on the second flight and re-enter to go to the gate.
And if your first flight is delayed such as you are too late to board the second one, I am afraid that you have no right to a refund, and you have to try and find another flight to proceed to your final destination. Fortunately, delayed flight seldom happen with Ryanair (90 % on time).

They would loose. I mean if you have connection, the company's responsible is to get you to the final destination. And if the company has no several daily but 2xweekly flights, they should give you hotel, vouchers for food, transport and whatever in case of small delay. I'm sure they know many of us are trying to connect 2+ flights together. Why did they doubled flights from STN to Danmark, Poland, Slovakia or made 4 to Oslo this way? London is not so good summer destination. But many other served are :-) Anyway, they know about our connections, but have nothing to do with this as risk of delay and missing the next flight (rapidly buing next, expensive ticket) is on pax site this way :-)

Hi,

In the next fortnight I will be catching my first ever Ryanair flights and have a few questions.

I have decided not to bring any checked baggage on any of my flights, and only cabin baggage.

Am I allowed to have a handbag as well as my cabin baggage?

If I decided to change my mind and bring both checked baggage and cabin baggage, is there a way I can update my details online? How much is the additional cost for checked baggage, and how many hours before the flight can I amend the baggage?

If I decided to change my mind at the airport regarding baggage, how much does it cost to amend my choice at the airport as compared to amending online?

Thanks in advance for any help!

1) No (even if the law in the eu says you can Directive CE 2007/36) at least you have problems. I suggest to throw your handbag inside your trolley
2) yes you can, just on www.ryanair.com go to your reservation and do it (if I am right it costs 20 euro). BUT DO IT BEFORE YOU PRINT YOUR CHECK-IN. Else you should do it at the airport
3)It costs 40 euros a lot of hassle and time...If you should, then do it online.

From my experiences the airport staff usually don't care about how many small bags you have only if all of them are in one piece. I mean in most strict airports they may ask you to hide your photo/hand bag/whatever into cabbin bag, but it's also ok for them if you hide it into your pocket. That's why I'm travelling with blouse with large pocket in front and shoulders with many smaller all over Wink Just make sure you'll be with one peace shown wich will suit to all dimensions before security and boarding.
Nice to see Aussie here, enjoy your stay in our continent :-)

Looks like I may be changing my booking to checked baggage. I doubt my handbag would fit in my cabin baggage.

If I decide to check in in advance online, and print the ticket, and then change my mind - what do I do? Can I amend my booking and then reprint the tickets? Or is a matter I have to raise at the airport?
