The battle between Ryanair Holdings PLC and Danish labor unions escalated Friday as Europe’s largest budget airline said it could withdraw all planes based in the country amid sustained strike threats.

Ryanair said it would relocate its only plane based at Copenhagen airport to Kaunas, Lithuania.

Danish labor union representatives said Friday they were maintaining their threat to take strike action against Ryanair even after the Irish discount airline said it would withdraw its only plane based at Copenhagen airport.

Local labor groups have demanded that Ryanair’s staff based in Denmark be covered by Danish worker agreements. The airline has two bases in Denmark, Copenhagen and Billund in the center of the country.

A Danish labor court earlier this week sided with the unions, which don’t represent Ryanair employees, allowing them to strike against Europe’s largest budget airline over its refusal to enter into a collective labor agreement with workers.

The verdict, which Ryanair called “bizarre,” led the budget airline to announce Friday it would relocate the plane based in Copenhagen to Kaunas, Lithuania. The carrier also said it would expand services at the Danish capital using jets based elsewhere.

The airline still has two Boeing Co. 737 airliners based at Billund and employs around 100 staff there. The 50 staff affiliated with the Copenhagen base are being given the option to relocate to another Ryanair location, an airline spokesman said.

* The BLQ-SKG route has been axed before two years as FR decided to offer the PSA-SKG route. Now it seems that FR will axe the PSA-SKG to resume BLQ-SKG.

They should expand more @ Malpensa, although from Milan it's the same distance than from Bergamo so not much difference.

Malta 2016

Ryanair will be operating nine new routes to and from Malta next summer, bringing its total of destinations from the island to 36 – two more than Air Malta.

The airline said this was being done through an investment of $100 million.

The new routes are Baden, Berlin Cologne and Dusseldorf in Germany, Gdansk and Poznan in Poland, Manchester in the UK, Rome in Italy and Budapest in Hungary.

The airline is also increasing the frequency of its flights to Birmingham to thrice weekly, Edinburgh to five weekly and London to daily.

This, it said, would lead to the creation of 150 new jobs in Malta.
