Soon Düsseldorf NRN-Lappeenranta?

According to http://www.finn-land.net/finnland-news/august2009/ryanair-lappeenranta-1408092.htm (German) and http://www.esaimaa.fi/Uutiset---Uutiset-maakunnasta/2009/08/08/Ryanair+aloittanee+lennot+Lappeenrantaan+loppuvuodesta/200917505704/5 (Finnish), Ryanair is planning a two weekly service between Düsseldorf Weeze and Lappeenranta in Finland.

Guesses for the name: Helsinki-East (220 km distance), St Petersburg-North (205 km distance).

My guess is Lappeenranta (Lapland) ... in time for the Christmas market!

Lappeenranta lies really close to the Russian border in the southwest, Lapland lies in the north of Finland

Lappeenranta is just about 20 km from Russian border and I keep my finger crossed for this rote.

In Russian forums all these rumors about Ryanair@LPN are сlosely discussed and we even corresponding to Petteri Lehti, LPN Airport Manager.

Lapland is far away

Flights will start on the 1st of April. Flight time 2h50min.

Too bad VR is so expensive (€40 for the Pendolino train to Helsinki that corresponds the best with the Ryanair arrival), otherwise I might have used this as an alternative way of getting to Estonia.

My current route is CRL - RIX and then some crappy buses to Tallinn which all combined makes my trip last 12h (including getting to the airport).

Best thing of course would be Ryanair competing with Easyjet in TLN, with a route to Brussels, Bremen and some airport in England. Easyjet now has too expensive fares imo (lowest is €30 single).
